Meet Campbell's Boatyards

Campbell’s three boatyards are renowned as full-service, high-quality marine and boatbuilding facilities. All three boatyards work together on projects, allowing them to pool the resources of the talented staff for job specific expertise. Each facility is unique; however all three provide quality service with attention to detail that has become our trademark over the years.

Campbell’s Boatyards are locally owned and operated by Tom and Susan Campbell. Tom grew up on the water and his passion for boats was encouraged and expanded by his mentor, Don Loweree, as under Don’s supervision he developed his skill in building custom boats from high school until he began his own company in 1991.

Campbell’s Custom Boatbuilders has been building fine custom boats since 1993. Whether
a 31-foot cocktail cruiser or a 42-foot luxury yacht, each custom boat is designed, built, and priced according to a customer’s individual specifications. From systems layout to interior design, we work closely with every customer to ensure their boating dreams come true.

Reliability and accessibility have always been of utmost importance at Campbell’s Boatyards. We aim to maintain and serve our customers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, while striving for quality craftsmanship in every project.

Our History

Just as the first Campbell boat, built in a small shop in Cordova, Maryland, was about to be launched, Tom Campbell, signed the mortgage and moved his operation to Oxford, Maryland on October 1, 1995.  He was looking to expand his small operation to have water access and the opportunity arose to buy what was then Shaw’s Boatyard.

The former Shaw’s Boatyard was renamed Campbell’s Town Creek Boatyard and operations in Oxford began.  After a couple of years of experience in the boatyard business, Campbell was offered the opportunity to expand his business by leasing the Bachelor Pt. Marina.  On June 1, 1998, the Bachelor Pt. Marina was renamed Campbell’s Bachelor Pt. Yacht Co., and the operation was expanded to include a 10-metric ton travel lift and a 1.5 acre dry storage facility, plus a new 4000 s.f. shop.  The take-over of the Bachelor Pt. facility allowed service ofmuch larger sailboats and powerboats, plus have much more capacity to haulout and store all sizes of vessels.  With the shop came many talented employees that stayed with the new business and many of them are still with the Campbell organization today.  In June, 2015, the Campbell’s purchased the Bachelor Pt. marina property.

On March 1, 2004, the Campbell’s operation expanded with the purchase of the Bates Marine facility at Richardson Street, Oxford.  The purchase of this boatyard filled a niche for smaller sailboats and powerboats.  The 56-slip marina was equipped with a travel lift and a big maintenance and repair shop, along with the diesel and gas pumps.  In 2013 and 2014, extensive dredging, a relocation of the travel lift slip, and the construction of two (2) floating docks took place.

The purchase of this marina began to service the slipholders at Town Creek for winter haul-outs and repairs, which made the Town Creek shop completely able to focus on the custom boatbuilding operation.  The custom boatbuilding shop has completed over a dozen boats, ranging in size from 30’ to 45”.

Campbell’s Boatyards is a “full-service” operation.  Between the three facilities there are slip rentals of 176 slips, two facilities can offer haul-outs, launches, and winter dry storage, plus indoor dry storage facility at Bachelor Pt.

In August, 2013, the Campbell’s operation expanded to include the Campbell’s Yacht Sales operation at the Bachelor Pt. facility.
